Dr. Kate Holden

Hello!

My passion and purpose is the human voice. “Nothing propels me more than the power of the human voice, as a means of beauty, truth, and justice.’ (Holden, 2025)

I employ this exploration of the voice through research, performance making, singing, voice teaching and vocal coaching, academic and creative writing, teaching drama and literature, and teaching English as a foreign language.

My work and artistic practice with the voice are rooted in cultures of queerness, extension, and the non-normative. I celebrate curiousity for the possibility of what a human voice may encompass, having trained for a decade in Roy Hart Voice Work, and using my PhD research to further develop queer approaches to this technique which I entitle femme vocal ghosting.

The ghosting aspect of my practice can best beis the process of making stories and worlds with other stories, I work with ghosts – through this I expand resonance. I describe my practice as ghosting, fusing autobiographical materials with existing materials-songs, stories, poems, novels, and more. In a way that these It is through this practice that images more common in the world allow a shield for the privacy and intimacy of autobirographical materials but provide a recognizable symbol and image for others, co-mingling and creating new meaning.
